In the 1920s, when the British ruled India, Governor Scott and his wife Catherine came to a forest in Adilabad. They took away a young and talented girl named Malli from the Gond tribe. Because of this, Komaram Bheem, the protector of the tribe, decided to go to Delhi to save her. He pretended to be a Muslim called Akhtar.
At the same time, the British rulers had Indian supporters. The Nizamate of Hyderabad warned Scott about Bheem’s plan. Catherine hired an Indian police officer named A. Rama Raju to stop Bheem. Raju pretended to be for India’s freedom, but he was secretly helping the British.
Bheem’s friend Lachhu believed Raju and tried to join him. But, Lachhu later found out the truth about Raju and ran away. Soon, Bheem and Raju met and became friends, even though they didn’t know that they were on opposite sides. Bheem tried to get close to Scott’s niece Jenny to save Malli. Raju found Lachhu and caught him. Lachhu bit Raju with a poisonous snake. Bheem saved Raju from the snake bite. Raju then learned about Bheem’s real plans.
At a party, Bheem’s team attacked Scott’s house with wild animals. They tried to save Malli, but Raju stopped them. Later, Raju felt bad for stopping Bheem because he remembered his promise to his father. Bheem was caught and punished by the British. Raju tried to help Bheem, but things went wrong. Bheem thought Raju was the enemy and ran away with Malli. Later, Bheem was hiding with Malli and was almost caught. Raju’s girlfriend Sita saved them by lying about a disease.
Bheem then learned that Raju was going to be killed by the British. He decided to save Raju. They both fought against the British soldiers and won. They also got back at Scott and Catherine. In the end, Raju and Bheem were happy with their families. Bheem wished for education for his people, and Raju promised to help.
This film shows the strength of friendship and the fight for freedom.
Inspiration Behind RRR:
Director Rajamouli stumbled upon some surprising similarities in the life stories of Raju and Bheem. This sparked a creative idea in him. He then imagined and designed a fictional tale. This tale revolved around a friendship between these two figures and how together, they rose up against the British rule in India. Creating “RRR” wasn’t a smooth journey. The making of the film had its challenges, particularly because of the unexpected delays brought about by the global pandemic. But despite these hurdles, the movie was successfully filmed in many locations across India and even some places in Europe.
Achievements of the Film:
The budget for “RRR” was quite high, with a whopping ₹550 crore spent. This made it one of the most expensive films ever made in India. On its release day, 25 March 2022, the film broke numerous records. It managed to earn a massive ₹240 crore just on the first day itself. This massive success, both from critics and in terms of money, carved its name as a memorable film in Indian cinema history.
Praises and Awards:
The National Board of Review listed it among the top ten films.
The song “Naatu Naatu” from the film received the award for Best Original Song at the prominent 95th Academy Awards.
The film didn’t stop there. It received nominations and even won awards at esteemed ceremonies like the Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice Awards.
